The site of the historic 1969 Woodstock Festival has officially been added to the National Register of Historic Places, marking a formal acknowledgement of the site’s history.

Bethel Woods CEO Darlene Fedun said in a statement, “We are thrilled to be officially placed on the National Register. We take our role as stewards of the land very seriously and have done so since the beginning.”

The honor continues an effort to preserve many of the site’s original features including the famed Message Tree. Bethel Woods also seeks to make improvements at the Woodstock monument as well as the construction of a new overlook atop the festival field.
