Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds’ brief early summer run brought them to Holmdel, NJ for a show that was heavy on rarities in the Dave Matthews Band catalog as the group dusted off tunes like “I’ll Back You Up” and “Recently” in a decidedly throwback set.

The duo kicked things off with “Dancing Nancies,” marking the first time Dave & Tim have opened a show with the Under the Table and Dreaming song since January 15, 1997. From there, the duo ran through deeper DMB cuts like “Grace is Gone,” “Recently” and another run through of “Best of What’s Around” before the first “I’ll Back You Up” since 2015.

Matthews and Reynolds offered up another tour debut of a newer DMB cut, “If Only,” in the middle of the set prior to the combination of “Two Step” and “Spoon.” Matthews also led the crowd on another tribute to the late Gregg Allman with a cover of “Melissa,” which they revived in Alpharetta, GA following the news of Allman’s death.

Matthews and Reynolds continue their run Saturday night in Chicago.
