Dead & Company kicked off their Fenway Park run last night in Boston with a nod to the late Pigpen, who played his final show with the Dead 45 years ago to the day.

The band delivered “Big Boss Man” in the first set, a popular cover throughout the Dead’s career and one led by Pigpen during his time with the band in the 60s and 70s. The Dead brought the song back in 1981 after a nine year absence and kept it around until their conclusion in 1995.

The rest of the show featured some of Dead & Company’s go-to stadium songs like “Help on the Way,” “Eyes of the World” and “Franklin’s Tower” to go along with just the second “Dancing in the Street” since its debut at Folsom Field earlier this month.

Dead & Co. return to Fenway tonight.
