Hard Working Americans have announced their first live album, We’re All in this Together, set for release on August 4, and the band has shared a first track off the album over at Relix. HWA is headed up by singer-songwriter Todd Snider, along with Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools and Duane Trucks, Chris Robinson Brotherhood’s Neal Casal, Great American Taxi’s Chad Staehly and Jesse Aycock.

Together was recorded during HWA’s 2016 tour in support of their sophomore album, Rest In Chaos, and features 13 tracks, most of which were taken from the band’s stop at Iron City in Birmingham, AL. Listen to the band’s cover of Chuck Berry’s iconic “School Day (Ring! Ring! Goes the Bell)” below.

“Chuck Berry’s poems are always coming from two places,” Snider tells Relix. “This one is a great synopsis, with lots of visual human detail, of a kid in a class room who can’t wait to get out of that classroom and over to the juke joint. Simple enough. But on another level, the great bumper sticker between the lines is saying ‘Hang on through the tough time ‘cause the good time is coming’ and you get to feel that without ever having to say something as trite as that. Which for me is the best non-use of something as phony and deceptive as an alphabet. Chuck Berry uses words against themselves and they deserve it. He’s my favorite poet and I got to tell him that more than once. And besides, think about it, if you’re going to yell something out loud, ‘Hail hail rock and roll’ is it.”

We’re All in this Together is available for pre-order now. Hard Working Americans also have a run of tour dates kicking off next weekend at High Sierra Music Festival. Get the full schedule and ticketing information here.
