Guitarist Jimmy Nalls, best known as a founding member of Macon, GA’s Sea Level, passed away last week at the age of 66.

The Allman Brothers Band memorialized Nalls on their Facebook page, noting that he had previously recorded with the likes of Gregg Allman, Dr. John, Alex Taylor, the Nighthawks and a number of other local Macon musicians. Nalls battled Parkinson’s Disease for more than two decades before succumbing to the disease.

Sea Level emerged in the late 70s following the initial breakup of the Allman Brothers Band. Lamar Williams, Jaimoe and Chuck Leavell teamed up as a trio before recruiting Nalls later on to officially form Sea Level. The group’s lineup evolved over the years and the band released a number of records in the years that followed including 1977’s self-titled debut as well as Cats on the Coast and others.

After Sea Level’s breakup, Nalls continued his career in music working with a wide variety of artists. He recently released an album with special guests Joe Bonamassa, Warren Haynes, Leavell and others.
