After a three-year break, moe.down returned yesterday at Snow Ridge Mountain in Turin, NY, with the first night highlighted by a two sets from the host band that featured several special guests. moe. had actually started up the festivities on Thursday night, however, with a soundcheck that was open to fans and included covers of the Grateful Dead’s “Casey Jones” and a surprise, unfinished cover of Phish’s “Chalk Dust Torture.”

After kicking off set number one with the “moe.down March” and delivering some band staples like “Timmy Tucker,” moe. closed out the set with a cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” a nod to the recently passed ABB founders Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks, before bringing out Ryan Montbleau, Hayley Jane and Kirk Juhas, who plays with moe. guitarist Al Schnier in his side project Al and the Transamericans, for a moe. debut of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.”

Set two kept the collaborations flowing, starting with a cover of Frank Zappa’s “San Ber’dino” that featured Kung Fu bandmates Tim Palmieri, Beau Sasser and Robert Somerville. Later on in the evening, moe. offered up an extended encore that was all-acoustic and included their cover of Violent Femmes’ “Blister in the Sun.”

See the full setlist below as it appears in our Box Scores section. moe. return to the moe.down stage today for two more of their scheduled seven sets throughout the weekend. Read our new interview with Schnier about moe.down and the band’s summer plans here.
