Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returned to the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, last night, playing the first of two nights at the venue and delivering a couple sets of favorites from the extended Grateful Dead catalog with their own special touch.

The band opened up set one with a slightly deeper-cut cover “Dark Hollow” before digging into some staples like “Althea,” “Playing in the Band.” The band covered a more recent tune, Bob Weir’s solo “Gonesville,” then closed the set with sing-alongs in “Casey Jones” and “Sugaree.”

Set two opened with “Deep Elem” and later made its way into some spacey territory with “Dark Star” before bringing the set home with “Estimated Prophet” into “Touch of Grey.” The encore of the night was a cover of Bob Dylan’s “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue.”
