This Tuesday, August 1, marks what would have been the 75th birthday of Jerry Garcia, and Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground is honoring the late Grateful Dead icon with a day of music from local musicians, who will be pulling from various aspects of Garcia’s career.

The music will kick off with Vermont bluegrass outfit Beg Steal or Borrow, who will be presenting their tribute to Old and in the Way, Garcia’s short-lived band with Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements, David Grisman and John Kahn.

The rest of the tribute will feature collaborative bands, starting with The Carnival Parade, featuring Nick Denoia, Tyler Mast, Andy Burke, Sheila Metcalf, Kevin Shapiro, Trevor Ainsworth, Sean Preece and Seth Yacovone, who will play a set of Jerry Garcia Band tunes. Finally, Great North Special, featuring Shapiro, Ainsworth, Metcalf, Burke, Preece and Yacovone, will close the tribute out with a set of Dead songs.

Also set to join throughout the event are Vermont-based musicians like Guster’s Ryan Miller, plus Brett Hughes, Zach Dupont, Eric Olsen, Amanda Gustafson, Rick Reddington, Alex Budney and more. More information can be found here.
