In honor of Jerry Garcia’s 75th birthday earlier this week, the Jerry Garcia Foundation has revealed a new custom guitar called “Ocean.” The instrument is a plastic-free, eco-friendly collaboration with luthier Tom Lieber.

Lieber, who co-created Garcia’s iconic “Tiger” guitar, was commissioned by the Foundation to make Ocean, which is made from sustainable maple wood and has a recreation of Garcia’s original “Fish” etching inlayed on the fretboard. The collaboration is in memory of Garcia, who was an avid scuba diver and supporter of coral reef conservation.

This guitar has been conceived with love and intent to serve as a symbolic vehicle for the Jerry Garcia Foundation to utilize in its continuing effort of expanding the positive world impact of Jerry Garcia’s creative legacy,” says Lieber.

The Foundation will invite musicians to play the guitar at ocean conservation benefits this month. More information can be found at JGF’s website.
