This year’s Peach Music Festival kicked into high gear on Friday for the event’s first full day of music, which featured a tribute to festival and Allman Brothers Band co-founder Gregg Allman from headliners My Morning Jacket and a couple choice sit ins, including the Turkuaz horn section joining Greensky Bluegrass for a few tunes during their set.

MMJ delivered a headlining performance that echoed the career-spanning sets the band has been offering during their summer tour dates. Just before the closing run of their show, Jim James and company drifted through a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Blowing in the Wind” before delving into the Allman Brothers classic “Melissa,” a nod to the late singer Allman. That, in turn, led into Prince’s “The Beautiful Ones” before the band closed out their set with some live staples like “Wordless Chorus” and a “One Big Holiday” finale.

Elsewhere around the festival yesterday, Greensky Bluegrass welcomed Turkuaz horn players Chris Brouwers, Greg Sanderson and Josh Schwartz for a portion of their performance. As JamBase notes, the three bandmates joined Greensky for a few songs, including “Bring Out Your Dead” and a cut from the band’s latest album, “Miss September.”

Yesterday’s Peach offerings also featured sets from Lettuce with special guest Chaka Khan, God Street Wine, who were joined by former bandmate Peter Levin, Pink Talking Fish’s Eat a Peach performance and a Phish/Grateful Dead performance from Holly Bowling.

See videos from MMJ and Greensky’s sets below. Today’s Peach Festival schedule includes music from Widespread Panic, Gov’t Mule & Friends with John Scofield, Umphrey’s McGee, Galactic and more, plus a tribute to Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks lead by Chuck Leavell and featuring several friends and former bandmates of the late ABB founders.
