Gregg Allman’s farewell album arrives in the form of Southern Blood, now available to stream in full via NPR’s First Listen.

Allman passed away on May 27 but not before collaborating with producer Don Was and musical director Scott Sharrard at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals on a final collection of songs that will be released to the world months after his passing.

Was and Sharrard spoke to Relix about the making of the album as well as a number of the songs including lead single “My Only True Friend” written with Sharrard. “I’m thankful that he got the lyrics and changes and everything dialed into the point where he really loved the song before he passed away,” Sharrard said.
