The National released their new album, Sleep Well Beast, yesterday and marked the occasion with a return to New York’s Bowery Ballroom, the band’s first appearance on that venue’s stage since 2007, along with a few collaborative performances with guests Sufjan Stevens and Doveman.

The group began the show by running through the new LP in its entirety, closing with the title track that saw them welcome out Stevens for the first of three songs. The singer-songwriter also stuck around for “Ada” and “Afraid of Everyone.” After a run-through of “Mr. November,” The National dug deep with “American Mary,” a track from their 2001 self-titled debut record that they hadn’t touched in a while, welcoming past collaborator Doveman (aka Thomas Bartlett) for the song.

The National will kick off their world tour in Ireland next weekend, with the first show coming September 16 in Cork. See their full schedule here.
