via @GreggAllman on Twitter

Johnny Sandlin, producer for the Allman Brothers Band and former bandmate of Gregg and Duane Allman, has passed away at the age of 72. Sandlin’s passing was confirmed earlier this afternoon in a post from Gregg Allman’s official social media accounts.

“The music world has lost another friend…RIP Johnny,” the post reads, captioning a photo of Sandlin and the Allmans with their band Hour Glass. Before the inception of the Allman Brothers Band, Sandlin, a drummer, teamed up with the Allmans in a band that built a following in St. Louis before moving to Los Angeles, where they cut two albums as Hour Glass.

Later, Sandlin returned to the brothers to act as ABB’s producer. He also worked behind the boards for Widespread Panic, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Chuck Leavell and many more. Sandlin was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
