Bob Weir offered up his thoughts on the late Tom Petty, who passed away at the age of 66, with a brief tweet eulogizing the songwriter.

“He was, above all, a storyteller,” Weir said. “He brought characters from other worlds to visit ours. They told their stories and shed light on our own.”

While Petty and the Dead never shared the stage, the Heartbreakers worked in “Friend of the Devil” in their show over the years, the final time which fittingly came on the anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s passing at Outside Lands in 2014. Watch that here.
