Banjo maestro Béla Fleck has announced a few dates with his longtime group The Flecktones for next year, with a slight twist, as the band will be playing shows as a trio instead of their usual quartet lineup. The Flecktones toured in this configuration from 1993-1997 between the departure of Howard Levy and the arrival of Jeff Coffin. The trio of Fleck and the Wootens is documented on 1993’s Three Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and 1996’s Live Art.

In addition to their recently announced slot at Snarky Puppy’s GroundUP Music Festival in February, Fleck and his bandmates Victor Wooten and Roy “Futureman” Wooten have set a few more dates at Charleston Music Hall in South Carolina on February 6, Clearwater, FL’s Capitol Theatre on February 7 and The Plaza Live in Orlando, FL, on February 8.

After a four-year hiatus, The Flecktones reunited for a couple of tour runs beginning last year. Read Relix‘s interview about the reunion with Fleck, Victor and fourth member Howard Levy here.
