Last night, Brooklyn Bowl hosted an album release party for Hayley Jane & The Primates, along with a wedding celebration for HJP bassist Josh Carter and former Relix employee Kristen DeTroia and a special set from the Wedding Allstars, featuring members of Dopapod, Kung Fu and Pink Talking Fish.

The evening began with a short ceremony for Kristen and Josh, including a speech from friend and Dopapod guitarist Rob Compa about the night the couple met. The vows were facilitated by the newly ordained Peter Shapiro, owner of Brooklyn Bowl and friend to the bride and groom, who quoted both Prince and the Grateful Dead in his opening remarks. The ceremony also appropriately took place under a custom chuppah that displayed the iconic Dead Steal Your Face logo.

The night’s first set of music followed the ceremony, as the supergroup of Dopapod’s Compa and Eli Winderman, Kung Fu’s Adrian Tramontano and Chris DeAngelis, and Pink Talking Fish’s Richard James took the stage for a run of love-themed songs like the Dead’s “They Love Each Other,” Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and Rolling Stones’ “Loving Cup,” along with classics like The Band’s “Up On Cripple Creek,” Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House,” Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman” and “Higher Ground” and the Allman Brothers Band’s “Blue Sky.”

The opening set also featured guest guitarist Justin Hancock, borrowed from the headlining Primates. Compa, Winderman and James returned the favor with their own sit ins during HJP’s following set, which featured several new tunes from the band’s recent album We’re Here Now. The performance also featured vocalist Elise Testone, appearances from HJP collaborators the Interstellar Dancers and an encore closer that brought all the night’s performers out.
