Suwannee Hulaween continued at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL, last night, and one of the highlights of the festival’s second day of music was the reuniting of bassist Mike Gordon with The Benevento/Russo Duo during their set, which marked their first show together since playing Brooklyn Bowl early this year after reuniting late last year.

Gordon joined Marco Benevento and Joe Russo for “Scratchitti,” a song off The Duo’s 2005 album Best Reason to Buy the Sun. Gordon played on the song many times during his outings with the group, which began with a couple shows in 2004 and continued with full tours, including a GRAB quartet outing featuring Trey Anastasio. Gordon first met Benevento and Russo through Ropeadope Records when he was signed to the label.

The trio last got together in 2009 during Gordon’s solo band set in Brooklyn, though he has shared the stage with Benevento and Russo individually since, with the last onstage meetings coming in 2014, when Gordon guested with Benevento and played with Russo at a Jerry Garcia tribute at TRI Studios. Gordon and Russo have recorded together since, and Russo even recommended to Gordon that he take on John Morgan Kimock as his solo band drummer.
