Yonder Mountain String Band Bring Multiple Cover Debuts to Halloween Show

Jeff Moore

Yonder Mountain String Band celebrated Halloween at Manchester Music Hall in Lexington, KY, on Tuesday night, offering up a set full of holiday-themed covers and more, plus a few debuts for the band.

The group came out on stage with Halloween-appropriate face paint and black clothes and opened up with “Rambler’s Anthem,” which led into a cover of The Misfits’ “Skulls.” A few tunes later, the band debuted their covers of Blue Öyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper” and Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London” and followed them up two songs later with their first live rendition of “Frankenstein” by The Edgar Winter Group.

Other covers throughout the night included The Rolling Stones’ “Torn and Frayed,” The Buzzcocks’ “Ever Fallen In Love” and a set-closing run that featured Phish’s “Scent of a Mule” and Ween’s “Piss Up a Rope. The band then closed the night with an encore of “I’m Lost” and Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train.”
