A mix of musicians from the jamband and funk scenes will come together for “Dave and Scott’s 92nd Birthday.” The improvisational-heavy evening will take place at Cervantes’ Other Side on January 27, celebrating the combined birthday of Motet founder/drummer Dave Watts and the venue’s owner and talent buyer, Scott Morrill. Watts will lead an all-star band during the show and Big Mean Sound Machine will provide support duties. In addition, the group will provide provide their “traditional adult pinata ceremony during set break.” This version of Dave Watts & Friends will bring together Jason Hann (The String Cheese Incident), Roosevelt Collier, Ian Neville (Dumpstaphunk), Chuck Jones (Dopapod), Todd Stoops (RAQ), Jans Ingber & Camille Who?, Gabe Mervine (Motet) and Nick Gerlach.

The Motet have a few more dates left in 2017. In early December, the ensemble will participate in the annual Dominican Holidaze event hosted by STS9, the Disco Biscuits and Umphrey’s McGee. Then, The Motet will close the year with a few Pacific Northwest gigs, including stops at Ashland, OR’s Historic Ashland Armory (12/28), Bend, OR’s Domino Room (12/29) and Portland, OR’s Revolution Hall (12/30-31).
