Last night, The Hold Steady opened up a four-night run at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl in which the band will welcome surprise openers each night. The residency kicked off with opener Patterson Hood, and the Drive-By Truckers co-founder helped out the headlining band with an AC/DC cover during their encore.

Earlier in the show, frontman Craig Finn and company filled their setlist with live staples and a couple of new tunes, as the band debuted their songs “Entitlement Crew” and “A Snake in the Shower,” both of which appeared on the single that they released yesterday.

Last night’s encore opened with a special tribute to late AC/DC guitarist and co-founder Malcolm Young, who passed away earlier this month. Finn welcomed up Hood, whom he calls one of the band’s “heroes,” for AC/DC’s “Ride On,” a song that has been in their repertoire for years.
