The upcoming installment of the ongoing Dave’s Picks series of classic Grateful Dead concert releases will draw from two shows the Dead played in the fall of 1971, including their first ever performance in New Mexico.

Dave’s Picks Vol. 26 will feature the band’s full 11/17/71 performance in Albuquerque, NM, which took place while Pigpen was off the road and featured Keith Godchaux, along with half of the group’s 12/14/71 show in Ann Arbor, MI, which saw Pigpen back with the band. The 2018 Dave’s Picks subscribers’ bonus disc completes that second show with the other half of the performance.

According to Dead archivist and series curator David Lemieux, the Albuquerque performance featured “some of the best music [the Dead] played in all of 1971.” Lemieux also notes that the concert included “one of the most powerful and intense versions of ‘The Other One’ you’ll ever hear, as well as a ‘Not Fade Away’ that rivals the one played two nights earlier on 11/15/71 in Austin.”
