As a longtime R.E.M. collaborator and the frontman of Young Fresh Fellows and The Minus 5, Scott McCaughey has been a staple of the Portland, Ore. music scene for decades.

This past November, McCaughey suffered a stroke while on tour and, as he recovers, a group of fellow Northwestern musicians have banded together to help offset his impending medical and rehabilitation expenses. Help The Hoople is a two-day benefit concert taking place January 5 and 6 at Portland’s Star Theater and Wonder Ballroom respectively. Night one will feature acts like Justin Townes Earle and M Ward, whereas night two’s lineup will feature R.E.M. members Peter Buck and Mike Mills as well as The Decemberists.

Additionally, Help The Hoople will feature an online auction featuring music memorabilia, backstage meet-and-greets and other rare items.
