Phil Lesh is currently in the midst of a New Year’s run at Kahului, HI’s Castle Theater at Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Like last year’s Hawaii holiday run, the Grateful Dead bassist is ringing in the New Year with the Terrapin Family Band; Lettuce/Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno has also joined the ensemble during their holiday run. (Kraz has served as something of an unofficial member of Terrapin Family Band this year.) In order to get into the area spirit, Lesh and company kicked off their December 28 opening-night performance with a take on The Chantays’ surf rock classic “Pipeline.” On December 29, they also got into the beach spirit with a take on Jimmy Cliff’s “The Harder They Come.”

Lesh will return to the Castle Theater this evening.
