On Sunday night, Phish welcomed 2018 with a three-set affair at New York’s Madison Square Garden, capping off their annual four-night New Year’s Eve run at the venue, and the band treated the sold-out arena to yet another inventive midnight gag that saw them set sail on a pirate-ship stage inside The Garden.

The band kicked off their third set with their live debut of new song “Soul Planet” as helpers dressed as some sort of space pirates unfurled the ship’s sails and the entire arena counted down to the new year. Trey Anastasio then led his cohorts into the traditional “Auld Lang Syne” as balloons rained down on the crowd and cannon fire rang out to deliver disco balls to all.

Watch the S.S. Phish set sail below. And if you’re into the whole gag, the band just released a number of items featuring the Phish pirate flag via their Dry Goods store.
