The Recording Academy has announced that trailblazing funk quartet The Meters will be honored for their innovative contributions to music with a lifetime achievement award.

Fellow music revolutionaries who will be honored with the same award this year include Queen, Emmylou Harris, Hal Blaine, Neil Diamond and Tina Turner.

The ceremony for the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards will take place this summer, and further details will be announced in the near future.

While The Meters have never won a Grammy, their song “Cissy Strut” was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2011.
