Joe Russo’s Almost Dead opened their 2018 campaign last night with the first of three shows at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, delivering a two-set performance that touched on a slew of originals and covers from the Grateful Dead catalog, including an Almost Dead debut to open the second set.

A tease-heavy set one rolled into “Brown Eyed Women” to start and featured Dead classics like “Jack Straw,” “Estimated Prophet,” “The Other One,” “Shakedown Street” and a set-closing jam on “Here Comes Sunshine.”

The second set opened with a cover of Charlie Monroe’s “Rosa Lee McFall,” the first live performance of the tune from Almost Dead. The cover was a part of Jerry Garcia, David Grisman and Tony Rice’s The Pizza Tapes album, along with finding its way into some acoustic Dead setlists.

Last night’s show kept rolling with “Throwing Stones,” a request from Russo’s sister, who was celebrating her birthday. The second frame also featured a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City” and saw the band return to “Slipknot!” a few times while running through “Franklin’s Tower” and “Help On the Way.” The night rounded out with a “Touch of Grey” encore.”

See the full setlist below, along with some video from the night. Almost Dead continue their run at The Cap tonight with round two.
