On Thursday night, Greensky Bluegrass brought their tour through The Fillmore Philadelphia and ended up welcoming a local favorite for a few tunes, as guitarist Tom Hamilton came out for a portion of the first set.

Hamilton’s guest spot fell in the midst of the second set, when the guitarist emerged for a rendition of the folk song “Butcher’s Boy,” Greensky’s “Demons” and the early-day Grateful Dead cut “Mr. Charlie,” a song written by Pigpen McKernan and performed by the band during his tenure in the early ’70s. Hamilton has been performing the tune for years with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, and Greensky have sprinkled it in their own repertoire, including for a special performance at Terrapin Crossroads during a sit in from Dead bassist Phil Lesh back in 2015. Watch a video of Thursday’s collaboration below. The Philly show also featured an encore cover of Phish’s “Chalkdust Torture” to close out the night.

Last night at Washington, DC’s 9:30 Club, Greensky kept the guests coming with a sit in from opening act Billy Strings, who has joined the band several times during their touring stint together. The guitarist came on stage for a first-set cover of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode” and an encore of Greensky’s “Fixin’ to Ruin.”
