Dead & Company celebrated the second night of Playing in the Sand on Saturday, kicking things off with a danceable “Shakedown Street” and later welcoming Michael Franti to the stage for a rendition of “I Know You Rider.”

Following “Shakedown Street” the band slowed things down with “Cold Rain and Snow,” “Loser” and a sweeping “Jack Straw.” Set one closed with “Ripple.”

Set two began with “Viola Lee Blues” and then a fun-filled “China Cat Sunflower”> “I Know You Rider” jam that featured Franti and the rest of his Spearhead band. On Instagram, the singer called the performance “one of the highlights of [his] career.”

After Oteil Burbridge took over lead vocals on “Comes A Time,” the band launched into the longest jam segment of the night on “Deal”> “Drums/Space”> “Standing on the Moon”> “The Wheel.” Dead & Company closed night two of Playing in the Sand with “Sugar Magnolia” and an appropriate “One More Saturday Night” encore.

Playing in the Sand continues tonight in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
