New supergroup Matador! Soul Sounds, which debuted back at last year’s Brooklyn Comes Alive, will release their debut album Get Ready on March 12, and today they continue their weekly rollout of the record’s tracks with “Theme for a Private Investigator,” which premiered over at Pop Matters.

The new tune was written by the band’s keyboardist Chris Spies, who says the song came from an experiment he was doing where he tried to make vintage-sounding songs and pass them off as newly discovered, old tracks.

Matador! Soul Sounds is led by Soulive drummer Alan Evans and New Mastersounds guitarist Eddie Roberts and also features bassist Kevin Scott and vocalists Kimberly Dawson of Pimps of Joytime and Adryon de León of Orgone. The group will head out on the road for a batch of tour dates in support of Get Ready starting March 16 in Washington, DC.
