As part of SXSW’s Brooklyn Bowl Family Reunion, in partnership with Harley Davidson and Sailor Jerry, Relix‘s Tribute to Jerry Garcia at Austin’s historic Scoot Inn featured house band The Texas Gentlemen, as well as Nicole Atkins, Billy Strings, Rayland Baxter and more.

Before things got into full swing, opening band Common Heart nodded to the Garcia theme by performing Charles Bradley’s version of “Cumberland Blues,” as heard on the 2016 Day of the Dead compilation.

Later, the tribute opened with The Texas Gentlemen backing Erika Wennerstrom on “Friend of the Devil.” Versions of Ripple (featuring Chris Porterfield) and “Deal” followed, with Ed Jurdi of The Band of Heathens delivering a stirring rendition of “Gomorrah” afterwards.

Then, Nicole Atkins gave the crowd a double dose of “Stella Blue” and “Turn On Your Love Light.” And Billy Strings slowed things down with an emotional “To Lay Me Down.”

After alt-country singer Rayland Baxter served up his take on “New Speedway Boogie” and “Fire On The Mountain,” Atkins returned at the end of the set, joining Jurdi for “Truckin,” before the Band of Heathens singer closed out the evening with the Garcia solo gem “Cats Under The Stars.”
