Gov’t Mule are in Australia for a run of shows including a slot at this week’s Byron Bay BluesFest, but first up were headlining shows in Sydney and Melbourne, both of which featured sit ins from Lukas Nelson, frontman of opening act Promise of the Real.

On Monday at the Metro Theatre in Sydney, Nelson emerged for a two-song encore that featured covers of Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s “Danger Bird” and The Band’s classic “The Shape I’m In.” Nelson and his band have backed Young recently on tour and in the studio.

Last night at The Corner in Melbourne, Mule once again brought out Nelson for the encore, which included another pair of The Band and Young covers, “It Makes No Difference” and “Cortez the Killer,” respectively.

See both setlists below as they appear in our Box Scores section. Gov’t Mule play Byron Bay BluesFest March 29 and 30. Nelson and POTR play the fest March 29 and 31 and April 1 and 2.
