Filmmaker Cameron Crowe, best known for his iconic, semi-autobiographical rock movie Almost Famous, will produce an upcoming documentary on legendary singer-songwriter David Crosby, BMG announced today.

As Variety notes, this will be the first documentary to be fully authorized by Crosby, the folk veteran who helped found both The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the film will be directed by A.J. Eaton.

“It’s just such a compelling story,” Crowe says of Crosby’s life and extensive career. “David Crosby has been near the forefront of music and social change for the last four decades. Now 76, he’s forging a new path by seeking out younger musicians and trying to make a mark in a world now so different from the generation he came to define in the 60’s. It’s a raw and moving portrait, rough edges and all.”
