On Sunday April 8, at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET, Relix‘s YouTube and Facebook pages will present a free webcast of John Perry Barlow’s memorial service, live from The Fillmore in San Francisco. The event is being billed as “Barlow’s Graduation From Meatspace.”

Barlow passed on Feb. 7 after a long illness, and throughout his life he was hailed as a skilled songwriter and a strong advocate for internet freedom.

A childhood friend of Bob Weir, Barlow acted as the guitarist’s primary songwriting partner, penning some of the Grateful Dead’s most beloved tunes including “Mexicali Blues,” “Cassidy,” “Estimated Prophet,” “I Need A Miracle,” “The Music Never Stopped,” “Throwing Stones” and more.

“John had a way of taking life’s most difficult things and framing them as challenges, therefore adventures – by their nature awakening and maybe even fun,” Weir wrote after his passing. “He was to be admired for that, even emulated. He’ll live on in the songs we wrote.”

As stated above, you can stream Barlow’s funeral, via Relix‘s YouTube and Facebook pages. See below for a portion of the memorial’s official invite, posted on Barlow’s website.

We invite you to join us on April 8th for one last BarlowFrenzy. Let us come together to celebrate the profound impact that John Perry Barlow had on our lives. While a BarlowFrenzy will not be the same without Barlow, we intend to make this a party he would be proud of. There will be fine words spoken, there will dancing, but most importantly there will be you – his prized collection of humanity at its finest.
