Leftover Salon and Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band played Red Rocks on Saturday, in a free-spirited evening that contained several sit-ins.

Hot off the release of their new album Something Higher, Leftover Salmon started things off on a celebratory vibe with “Let’s Give A Party.” They dug up some early material with a “BooBoo”> “Gimme Da Ting”> “BooBoo,” before later welcoming Jeremy Garrett to the stage to add fiddle on one of their newer tunes “Game of Thorns.”

Phil Lesh also jumped on board for “Catfish John” and “Big Boss Man,” and the band closed their single set with the Euphoria track “Better.”

Then, it was the Terrapin Family Band’s turn to take the stage, and they wasted no time, opening with a raucous “Cumberland Blues”> “Viola Lee Blues” jam, with additional bluegrass instrumentation by Vince Herman, Drew Emmitt, Andy Thorn and Erik Deustch from Leftover Salmon.

Following a number of Grateful Dead favorites, and Phil Lesh’s standard “Donor Rap,” Twiddle frontman Mihali joined the band for “Fire On The Mountain” and “The Music Never Stopped,” returning the Friday night favor of Phil Lesh and Grahame Lesh sitting in with Twiddle for their first Red Rocks gig.
