As the temperature climbed toward 90 degrees, Dead & Company took over the Mattress Firm Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, Calif., playing two diverse sets and even a few choice covers.

The band got the crowd moving with opener “Hell In A Bucket,” and dotted the first half with fan-favorites like “Tennessee Jed” and “Friend of the Devil” before jamming out “Loose Lucy” within a “Bird Song” sandwich.

Following a by-the-book version of “Mr. Charlie,” Dead & Company got really improvisational in set two. Starting with “Truckin’” the band jammed “New Speedway Boogie” into the West Coast ode “Estimated Prophet” and then “Shakedown Street.” After a quick departure into “Drums/Space,” the band continued on with a sing-a-long of “I Need A Miracle” and then The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence.”

They closed set two with “US Blues,” and encored with “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.”

Dead & Company continue their summer tour on July 7 in Los Angeles. For a full list of tour dates click here.
