Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Wheels of Soul tour made a stop in Virginia on July 11, and plenty of special guests stopped by including Marcus King and Deshaun Alexander of the Marcus King Band as well as Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley of Drive-By Truckers.

Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi started off their single set with a bang, playing their rockin’ original “Made Up Mind,” followed by “Don’t Drift Away.” Later, they performed two of the evening’s three Bob Dylan covers, “Down in the Flood” and “Lord Protect My Child.”

After a nice drum solo within “Idle Wind,” Marcus King emerged to add some guitar on Charles Segar’s “Key to the Highway.” King also stuck around to perform on another cover, Joe Tex’s “Show Me.” The guitarist was then swapped out for his bandmate Deshaun Alexander, who added some organ on TTB’s live favorite “Bound For Glory.”

The final Bob Dylan cover of the night came at the end of Tedeschi Trucks Band’s set. Joined by Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley of Drive-By Truckers the band explored “Going Going Gone,” a mid-‘70s Dylan track off of Planet Waves.

TTB encored with Derek and the Dominos’ “Tell the Truth” and Trucks’ own “Get What You Deserve.”
