Surprise sit-ins have become the norm at Newport Folk, and 2018’s edition is no different.

As Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit played Friday’s final set, they were joined by David Crosby for two of his classic ’60s tunes.

Earlier in the band’s single set, they served up some some of Isbell’s originals, like “24 Frames,” “Anxiety” and “Something More Than Free.”

Isbell and The 400 Unit played newer fare like the pensive “White Man’s World,” as well as four songs off his 2013 solo effort Southeastern, including “Elephant,” “Stockholm,” “Flying Over Water” and “Cover Me Up.”

Crosby then joined in for covers of “Wooden Ships” (a fitting tune for the event’s nautical setting) as well as the protest anthem “Ohio.”

After Crosby left the stage, Isbell played “If We Were Vampires” off his band’s 2017 release The Nashville Sound.
