From the opening notes of “You Sexy Thing,” the 12,000 Phish fans gathered at Alpharetta, Ga.‘s Verizon Amphitheatre on Sunday night knew they were in for a wild ride. The Hot Chocolate cover debuted on 7/28/2017, and with Mike Gordon leading the charge on vocals, it marked the first donut-themed cover to be resurrected since the band’s historic Baker’s Dozen residency.

The energy in Alpharetta was soaring ever-upward from there, as the band threw the crowd into a frenzy with “Tweezer Reprise,” which bookended the set two “Tweezer” from night one.

“What’s the Use” followed, as did the first “Petrichor” of 2018 (last played 8/5/2017). Phish continued jamming into the third-ever “Most Events Aren’t Planned,” and closed the first half with a triple threat of “Vultures,” “Reba” (including teases of “You
Sexy Thing,” but sans whistling) and a funky “Sand.”

Set two was just a fiery for the Vermont quartet, opening with a “Taste”> “Golden Age”> “Twist” movement. Elements of “What’s The Use?” and “You Sexy Thing” reappeared in the “Taste” and the whistling section of “Reba” finally arrived in “Golden Age.”

Phish kept the jams going through “Waves”> “Fuego”> “The Mango Song”> “Bathtub Gin,” but the real highlight came with a full reprise of “You Sexy Thing” to close out the set.

The crowd was on pins and needles awaiting Phish’s final encore of their three-night stand, and it kicked off with classic Junta track “Fee,” with guitarist Trey Anastasio adding his usual megaphone-laden vocals. Finally, to end the evening and the run, the band played an epic “Also Sprach Zarathustra” a.k.a. “2001.” The band cinched up any loose ends, teasing both “You Sexy Thing” and “Tweezer Reprise” one last time before taking their final bow.
