Phish returned to the Merriweather Post Pavilion stage on Sunday night in Columbia, MD, following up a relatively tame night one with a setlist studded with a few curveballs for the MPP crowd, along with a bevy of fan favorites to highlight the group’s final show before their festival in Watkins Glen, NY, this weekend.

The quartet wasted very little time in getting the energy revved up last night, kicking off set one with “Llama” and “Big Black Furry Creature from Mars,” before diving into a slinky “Meat” that featured a tease of “Streets of Cairo” from Trey Anastasio. The following playful “Alaska” capped up a four-song run of tour debuts to open the show.

A first-set “Tweezer“—with Anastasio continuing the teases in the form of The Doors’ “L.A. Woman“—that lead into an equally racous “Bathtub Gin” solidified early on in the evening that this was another Sunday show not to be missed. A punchy, extended “Curtain With,” which stooped down into some quiet jamming before building to a languid peak, then preceded the classic first-set rocker “Chalk Dust Torture” to close out a fun opening frame.

Not to be outdone by a solid first set, the second portion of the night opened with a surprising “Tweezer Reprise” that quickly segued into “No Men In No Man’s Land,” which Phish have loved to jam out since its first appearance a few years ago. A “Twist” featuring yet another tease, this time of Iron Butterfly’s “In A Gadda Da Vida” from Page McConnell, was followed up by a relatively brief “Prince Caspian.”

A dynamic, multifaceted “Piper” then recalled “Tweezer Reprise” for a moment before the band jumped into “Backwards Down the Number Line” and a funky take on “2001.” The second set then rounded out with a bombastic, crowd-pleasing “Harry Hood.” Phish would later return for a three-song encore of “Heavy Things,” “Bug” and, appropriately, another round of “Tweezer Reprise.”

See the full setlist below, along with a few of fan-shot videos from the night. Next up for Phish is their three-day Curveball festival this weekend, August 17–19, at Watkins Glen International.
