Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returned to Colorado’s famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Thursday night, offering two sets of Grateful Dead favorites with a few twists, including an impressive second-set-closing run that featured some Phish teases and a Radiohead cover.

On an evening where Phish were forced to cancel their Curveball festival that was set for Watkins Glen, NY, this weekend, Almost Dead nodded to the Vermont Quartet by fitting teases of “Wilson” as they jammed in and out of Dead tunes “Slipknot!” and “Feel Like a Stranger,” with the Red Rocks crowd responding with the appropriate “Wilson” chants. Russo and company then jumped straight from “Slipknot!” into their cover of Radiohead’s “The Bends” (Almost Dead have also covered or jammed on that band’s “Myxomatosis,” “Killer Cars” and “National Anthem”), and later closed out the second set with “Not Fade Away.”
