Gov’t Mule brought their run of dates with opening act The Magpie Salute to Charlotte, NC, on Friday night for a show at the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre, and the band closed out their performance with a collaborative tribute to late legend Aretha Franklin, featuring members of their supporting act.

Before that tribute, Mule offered a packed set of originals and covers like Jimi Hendrix’s “If 6 Was 9” and Billy Cobham’s “Stratus,” the latter of which featured a guest spot from guitarist and longtime friend of Warren Haynes and the band, Mike Barnes.

For last night’s encore, Haynes and company welcomed out four Magpie Salute members—guitarists Rich Robinson and Marc Ford, keyboardist Matt Slocum, and vocalist John Hogg—for a cover of Aretha Franklin’s iconic “Chain of Fools,” honoring the Queen of Soul who passed away earlier this week.

See the full setlist below as it appears in our Box Scores section. Gov’t Mule and The Magpie Salute continue their dates together tonight in Charleston, SC.
