Gamelan Starts Over
In the wake of yesterday's devastating fire, Gamelan Interactive has
begun to
put the pieces back together. The five-alarm blaze in Newton, MA demolished
Gamelan's offices, forcing the production company to start over from scratch.
Until they move into a new office space, they will be doing business via
cell phone and email. The following is a list of temporary contact
information, during Gamelan's transitional period.
Andrew Stahl, Owner, Talent Buyer 617-388-4331
Howard Turkenkopf, Marketing, Publicity 617-504-9390

Lee Seelig, Booking 617-504-4443
Steve Robinson, Production 978-828-6318
As reported yesterday, all Gamelan shows will go on as scheduled. "I'm
psyched that Andrew and the Gamelan folk are proving to be resilient," says
Dean Budnick, editor of Jambands.com. "He has been one of the most active
supporters of our music for some time now. I really hope that New Englanders
will come out to the upcoming shows and support them. I'll be there myself
the next few nights and I hope to see people there." Their schedule includes
The Zen Tricksters tonight at Harper's Ferry in Allston, MA; Deep Banana
Blackout tomorrow night at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA; Lee Scratch

Bill Graham Presents Name Changed to SFX
Sadly, the name Bill Graham Presents is no more. The San Francisco company
was bought for $65 million two years ago by SFX Entertainment and in April,
the name will be changed. "We are the largest live entertainment company in
the world,'' said Mike Farrel, chief executive officer for SFX. "We are at
the point where we want to brand our company. We are taking this step for
two reasons. One, we want to build a countrywide brand name, and two, we
are a public company that wishes to expand its stockholder base.'' Bill
Graham was a legend in the music business, producing and promoting shows at
the Fillmore West in San Francisco, the Fillmore East in New York City, as
well as hundreds of Grateful Dead shows dating back to the Warlocks days.
Graham worked with nearly every major act of his generation, including the
Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, the Allman
Brothers, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison and Janis Joplin.
He is also responsible for introducing the world to Carlos Santana at
Woodstock in 1969. Graham died in a 1991 helicopter crash near Vallejo, CA.

Gamelan Offices Destroyed in Fire, Shows will Go on
The office building which houses Boston-based production company Gamelan
Interactive, along with numerous other businesses, is currently engulfed in
flames from a five-alarm fire. All Gamelan employees have escaped without
injury, but everything in the office was completely destroyed. "I just hope
that everyone in the building is alive," says Gamelan owner and talent buyer
Andrew Stahl. "We lost everything. We're confused, but we're gonna
regroup." WHDH News in Boston is reporting that the fire started in a
dentist office in the building just before noon. "We were just sitting there,
Andrew and I, advancing some production for this weekend and Todd (Walker)
said he smelled smoke," says Gamelan employee Steve Robinson. "Howard
(Turkenkopf) and I looked out the window and the building was on fire. We
went outside and watched it burn to the ground."
Gamelan Interactive's booking department represents Jiggle the Handle,
Soulive, John Brown's Body, The New Deal, Addison Groove Project, Dr. Didg
and The Living Daylights. Gamelan also promotes many Boston area shows as
well as the annual Berkshire Mountain Music Festival.
"The shows will go on," says Stahl. "We've got a great team. We're gonna
join together and make this happen." Upcoming Gamelan shows include The Zen
Tricksters tomorrow night at Harper's Ferry in Allston, Deep Banana Blackout
Friday night at the Middle East in Cambridge, Lee Scratch Perry Saturday at

Dave Fiuczynski to Play with Oteil and the Peacemakers
Dave Fiuczynski will join Oteil Burbridge and the Peacemakers February 15 at
Wetlands Preserve in New York City. Fiuczynski will also be performing with
his own band, Kif, in the lounge before joining the Peacemakers on the main
stage. "He's gonna play the whole gig with us," says Burbridge. "He's one
of my favorite musicians of all time. We used to check out his band, The
Screaming Headless Torsos and everyone in the ARU was just freaked out by
them. He's just amazing and we actually did get to play with him at that
time. When I moved to New York in November or December, I started going over
his house and we would just play together. So I've been jamming with him
over the last few months and really been having a blast. I was gonna get a
keyboard player for the (Wetlands) gig and then I decided since Dave's
already there, I might as well have him be the proverbial keyboard player.
His knowledge of chords is just so advanced. I'm really looking forward to
it." Tickets for the show are available now through
Ticketmaster and at the
Wetlands box office with no surcharge.
Ancient Harmony Added to Lauan Compilation
Lauan Records has announced that Ancient Harmony will be the third band
featured on Three Sets Volume 2. The album is a compilation that also
includes Larry and Wise Monkey Orchestra. It is a follow up release to
Three
Sets, which features Jiggle the Handle, Day By the River and Vinyl. In
addition to pricing the compilations very inexpensively, Lauan Records also
plans to donate a portion of the profits to charity. "We intentionally
price these compilations at $8.00 because we feel that CD prices have grown
to exorbitant levels," says Seth Goldberger of Lauan Records. "With these
compilations we are trying to give something back to the jam band community
as a whole; the fans get an amazing album at a great price, the artists
get a
great deal that helps them gain national exposure, and more than half of the
proceeds
go
directly to the artists and charity. Basically, everyone wins." Three
Sets
Volume 2 is expected to be released in May. For more information,
check out
http://www.lauan.com.
