In this space, over the next several months, I hope to bring many excellent new bands to your knowledge. I hope to get you psyched and enthused about going out and dancing your butts off to their KIND music. I hope to help you help them grow. That's what we're about here at The Home Grown Music Network - sharing the groove, spreading the KIND music, grass roots Home Grown support and keeping the scene not only alive - but growing! For this first edition, I thought I'd start off by telling you a bit about where, who, how, and why The Home Grown Music Network started:
The Home Grown Music Network, a part of Leeway Productions, was founded in 1995 by Lee Crumpton as a way to help talented independent bands reach fans who enjoy fun, interesting and mind expanding music. The bands we seek are those who are breaking past existing boundaries and creating their own musical genres. Since it is sometimes difficult to categorize this music, we have started calling it KIND music. The KIND music scene continues growing worldwide - yet there are still many people who wonder just what defines a groove or jam band. As a genre, the style of music can be difficult to describe. Essentially KIND bands incorporate long, extensive jams with incredible live performances. They have the sophistication of jazz with the basic elements of rock, funk, bluegrass and dozens of other flavors. Intense improv and experimentation take the listener on a journey. What The Home Grown Music Network does is help promote these bands.
Some of the ways we spread the word about the KIND music scene and these talented bands are: Home Grown Compilation CDs (now up to our *3rd*), FREE catalogs & FREE newsletters, WWW, online news group (see info below to subscribe), concerts & festivals, Buzz-A-Band (try before you buy - call 252-753-8567), ads in cool publications and YOU! Yes, YOU!
We maintain a network of representatives around the country who help us spread the word about these incredible bands. How? By posting flyers for upcoming shows, helping at shows, telling friends and providing useful information about their area. In return, reps gets discounts on merchandise, free passes for shows and are the first to know about hot new bands. If you are interested in becoming a rep, please email me (taz@earth.nowhere.net) with REP in the subject line.
