A moment with: Jive Talkin’ Robots
We, as human beings, are, by nature, a grounded lot. As a result of this dependant relationship, we tend to seek many opportunities to take flight. But all the adrenaline, freedom & grace can't keep us from coming home. This is the journey that the Jive Talkin' Robots have been taking audiences on for the past two years.
The music, an eclectic blend of jazz, funk and free form improvisation, affords the listeners a base to start from, purposely pulls the floor out from underneath and eventually brings it back to ground zero; allowing the audience and the musicians to create an adventure.
"This CD (Superheroes) has now been officially added to my personal playlist...Everyone, I'm serious, get this disc as soon as possible." JAM Magazine
"Superheroes keeps earning JTR more and more gigs and plenty of new fans." Willamette Week
Critically acclaimed and wildly popular. The Rocket calls J.T. Rex: "A fine piece of work...with rollicking time changes and funky charm."

Subject: Part I - The Sun ChroniclesFor those of you that are/were interested, here is a report of the 1st night of the Blind Man's Sun show from the Elbow Room in NYC.
Last night was REAL SPECIAL. Flat out rocked. Most of you wanted a DETAILED report of the show, so please excuse the indulgence for the following account of last night's "presentation" at the Elbow Room in NYC:
Around 11pm, a video came on the large screen set behind Darren's drums on The darkened stage. It was a Simpsons clip of Bart having a crummy start to his school day only to sit down in class and be greeted by Miss Kribopple's announcement that today was the field trip to the Chocolate Factory IF you had your permission slips, causing Bart to go into a screaming shock remembering that his slip was left on his bed at home.
The video then brought up Manager Mike sitting at a desk, in a suit, talking band business on the phone. As he is rambling about turning down offers from MTV and VH1, Kevin interrupts to ask if he could borrow the Sun's private jet. Hanging up the phone, Mike recalls how all this fame started back in '95 when his brother Dave handed him the BMS Demo tape. Home video was then shown of the recording of the Demo tape, revealing their cool haircuts. Referred to as the "Seventh member of the band," footage was shown of JD's dog, Chachi, viciously attacking the camera. As the video was on, the guys came out one by one and assumed positions as JD softly started "Impromptu", the first part of "IN GOOD TIME"......
IN GOOD TIME - all four parts played straight through with an updated, Revamped "Cow Towels" to close. What a treat. GATHER THE TROOPS - absolutely scorchin.' (VIDEO: random clips of the band and fans asserting just how much the days at Syracuse "sucked," because there was "no such thing as a sunny day in Syracuse..." (perhaps incentive for the band's name?). Also how BMS was the ONLY band in Syracuse which allowed for maximum gigs and thus the Legendary "30 show run." And then came the release of the first Double disc....)
LIVING CONDITIONS w/ Indian chant!! - all out percussion jam developed into repetitive big beats rather than the usual dancier jam. It slowed and then built back up again with Dave leading everyone in a "Heeey-Hooo" Indian tribe chant....STUFF AND NONSENSE 1-4 - Both tunes were kept really tight. Marco was all over the vocals and Dave supplied that great guitar jam at the end.. SHADOWS - also beautifully tight version. There must have been something notable about the middle jam or a video clip afterward because something was written on my setlist next to it, but unfortunately it resembled Chinese writing. Sorry. MENTAL AFFAIRS - Probably the best Mental Affairs ever played by the band. Kevin was an absolute monster and they slipped in a great vocal jam identified later by Dave as "Techno Vocal Jam" and was the first time ever played. Dave then slid into a guitar jam that I swear was one of his most inspired best. Folks, this jam reached a level of orgasm that would be impossible to recreate. Unfuckinbelievable. FUGITIVES - As always, pure bliss. Everyone just continued the amazing pace Set by Affairs... CESSATIONS - we all know the vocals are the strong point in this one, but Bob starting thumping like a madman which produced a funk jam Sending JD into an ecstatic state, slapping the keys like a porno star slapping ass cheeks. That's the only way to describe it. He agreed after the show.
(VIDEO: Mike, still sitting at desk, thanks everyone for coming out for Part I and promises more chronicling of the band in the five following weeks.... With that, the screen puts up the words "YET TO COME...." prompting the band To start up again....) SPATES - quickly builds up as rainbow- colored disco lights now light up the whole room... SPROCKETS - furiously loud and fast. SUN GOD - Everyone really came together on this, again - one of the best versions done yet of this tune. Disco lights were still going strong through all three tunes, including this extended out jam of Sun God. (the show, from the opening video clips to the last chant of "Blind Man's Sun", totaled a little over two hours)
All in all, the show, the music especially, far exceeded any hype and expectations and was really something special. I wish everyone could have been there. Keeping within the more jam-oriented style of the first disc, the band really put a lot of work into the extended jams, but added their new and improved touches to them. The Elbow Room was absolutely empty for the other bands, then quickly packed up for BMS right before 11pm, and everyone there was there to see the band. It was a mix of the regular fans, the band's family and close friends, and a good amount of Sun virgins brought by the regulars. Personally, the ones I brought were intrigued by the band and already Committed to going next week. The old home video footage was a treat and included everything from Marco rambling incoherently, Darren "auditioning" for the band even though comicly no one from the band was there watching, and Bob in deep conversation about the finer points of Atari's combat (I think) to an extreeeemely confused Kevin. As for Mike's superior acting, an Oscar nod is inevitable.
In all sincerity, it was a really special presentation of Blind Man's Sun That will never be replicated. I can't believe there are five more weeks!!!

Subject: Wise Monkey in PAAs the Hurricane rolled into the Philly area we were blessed with lots of needed rain and Monkey madness.
This show was the first night of their East coast tour that takes them through N.Y for several dates including the Harvest Moon festival and the Wetlands, up into Vermont and finishing at the Autumn Equinox.
If you have the opportunity, check them out. They have been at this for a while with many songs in the repertoire you can tell these guys can really turn out a varied selection. They have a driving percussion, Trombone, Trumpet, and good guitar work along with great female vocals. The percussion created a nice Latin feel which was a lot of fun during the instrumentals.
I can always tell when I have been to a really good show because my girlfriend Mary will make it the entire way without falling asleep. She's slept through the Dead. Hookah, Salmon and most recently Viperhouse. Sometimes she rally's and sometimes she's out for the count. In any case she went start to finish on this one and of course slept very soundly the entire drive home.
I'll stop my ramblings, check WMO tour journals from Lee Abraham at www.mrlee.com for pictures and blow by blows. Last night they played with Keller Williams that should've been a great one.
