Now in its fourth decade as one of the most successful ensembles to explore traditional Irish music and as well as innovative fusions, The Chieftains continues to explore new, diverse terrains. On San Patricio, in addition to blues/roots guitarist Ry Cooder, the group is joined by Linda Ronstadt, Liam Neeson, Van Dyke Parks, Lila Downs, Los Tigres Del Norte, Carlos Nunez and other talented artists. This ambitious trans-Atlantic project is a world music lover’s dream come true, highlighting Irish and Mexican styles such as jigs, rancheras, boleros, norteños and other traditional genres. The instrumentation is as multicolored as a Coogi sweater: Mexican guitars, button accordion, bajo sexto, trumpets, double bass, drums, Uilleann bagpipes, tin whistle, bodhrán, fiddle, harp and flute.
