It was a perfect evening to welcome in the fall, with the heat slowly dissipating and the sky crisp and clear. Loyal local fans and dance aficionados gathered on the Rocks Off Temptress to enjoy the last Friday night of August with Future Rock and DJ Thibault.

Future Rock, comprised of Felix Moreno on bass, Mickey Kellerman on keys, Darren Heitz on drums and all of them using live loops, synthesizers and samples, make a trio of delicious musicians both on and off the stage. DJ Thibault, whose real name is Thibault Bowman, got the party started. He is a talented artist from Texas, making waves not only as a one-man show, but also with his and Moreno’s side project, Auto Body.

Future Rock stands out in the overly saturated market of the jamtronica scene today for many reasons. They have tight transitions, command of the stage through their exquisite light show, where Moreno’s never ending maloik stance through the haze is both eerie and titillating, while fluidly relating rocktronica to the audience. But they posses something that many rising rock stars forget about when gaining an audience: humility.

They effortlessly weaved through original songs and covers, like the Gorillaz “Glitter Freeze,” blending a two-hour set that had everyone dripping by the time the boat docked. They are passionate players, who move to every beat they play, throwing that energy back into the audience.

Friday Night’s with Future Rock should be a staple residency in a city lucky enough to have a band that will melt all the week’s stresses away.
