This month's editorial is sponsored by the number 3 and the letter J.
Sorry, my daughter is hooked on Sesame Street so I'm of that frame of mind (when
did Elmo take over that show?) . Btw, here's a Sesame Street jamband tidbit for
you- Bela Fleck makes an appearance on the program, banjo in hand (to entertain
the aforementioned Elmo and co.) Check it out- almost worth sitting through a
few hours of Baby Bear (yes, yes, of Goldilocks fame, a rather lame recurring
character, no?). Then again, who knows, while you're waiting for Bela maybe you'll
get to see Slimy the worm and the abundantly-pleasing Wormy Gras episode. BTW,
if any of you out there happen to work for the Children's Television Workshop,
here's an idea- why not add Tweakie, the Tour Rat? Come to think of it that might
make for a good Ben and Jerry's Flavor too, no? Tour Rat. Mmmm.
Okay, okay, back to the 3. This issue marks year three of jambands.com.
Intriguing, no? I go back and forth on this one- does it seem like we've been around for
longer than two years or does it seem like time has accelerated? As I sit here
and cogitate on it- it feels like well...twenty-four months have passed. Anyhow,
no profound words from your editor on this fraction-of-a-milestone- just big
thank yous to everyone who has supported the site over the past 104 weeks. In
particular I genuflect before those writers and editors who have been with us since
issue one- and there are plenty. Thanks to them- and to you, for continuing to
check us out, and above all, thanks to all of the bands who continue to go out
there and fight the good fight (thankfully, typically, metaphorically).
Anyhow, I pledge that we have some nifty ideas on the way, and we're close to
completing a site redesign which will make everything easier to navigate.
On a somber note- we extend our condolences to the family (and extended family)
of Allen Woody. If Woody's music moved you, please contribute to his daughter's
educational Fund- c/o Hard Head Management, P.O. Box 651 Village Station, New
York, NY 10014. Hopefully we'll see you at the benefit show on September 21st..
Final tidbit of the month- go read webmaster
David Steinberg's column
. As many of you probably know, the memers of Phish banned him
from the front row of their shows due to his timing-propensities. Well this
summer he returned to the place of his former glory, photo-pass in hand, and he
looked real goofy doing it- enjoy!
