Homegrown Happenings
by Marcie Vogel - marcie@homegrownmusic.netAll of the sudden it's September, it's getting a bit cooler (but not much here in NC) and we're in FALL FESTIVAL SEASON!!!!! Before I know it, I'll be on my way to FLORIDA to celebrate the last year of this decade the same way I've spent the majority of the other ones: with PHISH! Fall tours are underway for bands - make sure to go out and support the incredible live music being made! Here's where we'll be for the rest of fest season.please make sure you stop by the HGMN booth and say hi!
FESTIVALS!!!!!!!!!!! HGMN Booth at:
Sept 17-19 HARVEST MOON - Vienna, NY
Sept 24-26 AUTUMN EQUINOX - Brandywine, MD
Oct 8-10 HARVEST FEST - Atlanta, GA
Oct 15-17 MAGNOLIAFEST - Live Oak, FLA note of personal jubilation: I've been diggin on the Wise Monkey Orchestra for well over a year now. I have heard each of their 4 CDs (many many times) but have never seen them live since they are from California and I am here in NC. Well, my chance has come and I can't wait!!!! WMO will be touring the east coast THIS MONTH and I get to see them twice. The first experience is a dreamshow come true for me: at the Harvest Moon Festival, I get WMO, Deep Banana and viperHouse all in one weekend. Can you say MAJOR FEMALE FUNK OVERLOAD?????? Not to mention all the other incredible bands that will be busting it out in the beautiful natural ampitheater in the woods up there in NY. It's one of my favorite outdoor venues of this size. Yeah, ok, I am just a bit excited about this. Then the following weekend I get it again at the Autumn Equinox fest. Go check out the line-ups at these fests and remember to boogie your butt off! Check out WMO at: http://www.wisemonkey.com or at http://www.homegrownmusic.net/wisemonkey.htm
The new CATALOG will be coming out in later this month/early October. It will be full of all the new Home Grown Music Network Members as well as all the new releases we are carrying. Be sure to sign up on our mailing list to receive yours. You can sign up by sending me an email with your snail mail address (marcie@homegrownmusic.net), at a festival, or by calling 1800 6LEEWAY.
Any bands that are going to be involved at the Harvest Moon Festival on Sunday, September 19th and the Autumn Equinox Festival on Saturday, September 25th and are interested in having their set recorded please contact Reed Stewart with Wise Monkey Orchestra.
WMO will be touring the East Coast with a state of the art mobile recording unit and are offering the opportunity for a high quality live recording. WMO will be recording their East Coast Tour and would love to make this equipment available to other bands we will cross paths with at these festivals. Contact Reed at (619) 322-7333 or via email at reedwmo@compuserve.com to discuss arrangements and cost. Don't pass on this opportunity. Hope to hear from you.

A moment with: HIGHWATER
Anyway you look at it, to play rock and roll in Nashville you gotta have soulwelcome to Highwater! By playing the dim, smoky clubs where you rub cold beer sweat on your forehead so you can keep dancing, Highwater has built a loyal and growing following. Their self-titled debut album created a buzz by blending boogie and r'n'r, receiving national airplay on over 70 stations, supported by the band playing over 300 live dates in 25 cities. "Second Hand Suit", the groups sophomore release, encompasses everything Highwater likes about music: there's R&B, funk, boogie-woogie, straight ahead rock, swingin shuffles and even a gospel tune. If you like that Little Feat-esque southern groove, you'll LOVE Highwater. The group includes fuzzy frontman Nick Govrik on bass and vocals, howlin' Chad Abel on keys and vocals, and the devilish Lewis Stubbs on guitar. "We want people to come to our gigs and have a good time," Govrik says. "We focus on what's good about being here - we want to sweat, to dance and party. You know...R&B, girls, cars. We make American music."

TAPETREE.COM CLOSES
From: tapetreeHey All,
It's been a long strange trip since Terrapin in '92 but the time has come once again (remember my break in '96) for me to say goodbye for a while. I had a concept and a dream and it just didn't come together on the investor end.
The site has come to the point of full time management and without the economic stability for growth and proper attention it has just become stagnant with more and more work required each day.
At this time I will be closing all the trees except for Mike's GOV trees. I will be away for a short returning the 19th at which time I will close Mike's tree's.
The site will stay up as is until 1/1/2000 when the entire server will be nuked and Tapetree will be gone. During this period sign-off's will still be added but no other maintenance or tree's except for Vendors who I build sites for . Vendors have until 1/1/2000 to move their site and I will continue updates until that time.
On a side note, the Chat went awesome last night! Thanks to Lee Abraham and Wise Monkey Orchestra.
Peace, Nick
RADIO PLAY!!!!!
From: stuarthall@webjogger.netI work for WKZE in Sharon, CT. We are truly a progressive station, any short listen will stand as proof. We play a world of different music. I am always happy to discover new stuff. Of course, that makes our listeners spoiled, but why shouldn't they be?? We have already grown attached to many of the bands listed by the HGMN (John Brown's Body, Mecca Bodega, Schleigho, Donna the Buffalo and more). After the Berkfest interest has sparked in many more, especially Deep Banana, Vinyl etc. I would love to be in contact with the bands listed and will give you updates, somewhat responsibly, as to what I've played and what has generated some interest. Jam.
Thanks
