The New Riders of The Purple sage have come a long way in 40 years. The ever-evolving line up of musicians might have changed many times over the years but they seem to have now found themselves as tight and strong as ever. The packed house at The Highline Ballroom in NYC on 8/28 proves that the fans have stayed loyal by their side and continue to do so as the band continues to tour extensively throughout the year. Taking the group to new heights are original members, David Nelson and Buddy Cage. Joining them are Michael Falzarano (Hot Tuna) on guitar and vocals, On bass and vocals is Ronnie Penque, who has replaced John “Marmaduke” Dawson after his passing in 2009 and Johnny Markowski (Stir Fried) on drums and vocals. Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay made a special guest appearance joining in on some old favorites, “I Don’t Know You”, “Peggy-O” , “Franklin’s Tower” , “Friend of The Devil” and “Take a Letter Maria.” Others songs from the night included: “Where I Come From,” “Henry,” “Priznor Of Freedom,” “Spike Driver Blues,” “Kick It On Down,” “No Time,” “Louisiana Lady,” “Panama Red” and “Six Of One.”
