The five man storm known as Stockholm Syndrome blew into San Francisco on Friday night and left a lot of ears ringing and smiles on the happy faces of those lucky enough to squeeze themselves into San Francisco’s Independent. Troy New York’s power trio, Super 400 blasted their way through a set of killer originals as well as some tasty covers, including Keef’s “Happy” and Carole King’s “I Feel The Earth Move” that ended up sounding like a bonus track from a Yardbirds re-release!

By the time Stockholm took the stage the crowd was primed. With their new disc Apollo in stores and online for download, Stockholm roared into many songs never played in SF, which nonetheless sounded like old favorites. Most of the mix the first night was from Apollo with a couple from Holy Happy Hour thrown in for good measure. The one mellow song, penned for Garrie Vereen, so new it did not make the album, brought tears to some eyes of many in the crowd. “These Gray Days” and “In Your Cups” had me wondering if their Jam Cruise control was stuck on 90 miles an hour.

The second night was not a repeat of the first as might be expected from a band with a new album (there were only a couple repeats, including “Town and Country” and “Apollo”). A notable highlight, was a 10 minute “Couldn’t Get It Right” that had the crowd dancing, jumping and screaming for more…

A surprise cover of Vic Chesnutt’s “Flirted With You All My Life” smoked, and it was dedicated by big Dave to Garrie (“As well as all the songs we do”). A reggae version of “Lick The Tears” which included Jerry’s “valley of the shadow with all my friends” rap closed the two show run.
